York College announced today that Dr. Shane Mountjoy, vice president of student life and dean of students, has been appointed to the newly created position of provost.
As of January 1, Mountjoy will oversee both academic and campus life initiatives in this position.
“We’ve created the provost position due to the increasing interconnectedness of every aspect of the student experience,” says YC President Steven Eckman. “Both curricular and co-curricular activities should reflect who we are as an institution and each component should fully complement the other. The addition of a provost is the best way to achieve that going forward.”
“Dr. Mountjoy was the natural choice for this position due to his experience and success in the classroom, administrative work and leadership over the past five years,” added Eckman.
A 1988 YC alumnus, Mountjoy has served York College in a variety of faculty and administrative roles since 1990.
As provost, he will work closely with Academic Dean Tracey Wyatt.
“Dr. Wyatt possesses an analytical skill set that is vital to the success of the college,” says Eckman. “His work enhances our ability to understand our strengths and to target areas where we must make improvements. He will continue to be an integral part of the academic team.”
Mountjoy is eager to dive into this new position. “I am deeply honored to serve York College in this role and I am excited to work alongside the York College faculty in strengthening our academic rigor and reputation,” he says.
“As a Christian liberal arts institution, we will also seek to continually improve the transforming student experience, both inside and outside the classroom. With the strong academic leadership of our dedicated faculty and so many committed students, I am enthusiastic about the future of York College.”
