It was a busy week for York baseball as the spring schedule featured seven games with three different opponents including the #9 Bruins. The Panthers were able to extend their winning streak to 21 over Briar Cliff (2), Concordia University (1), and Bellevue University (2) before losing the final two games of the four-game series to the Bruins in Omaha.
The NAIA Coaches Poll has the Panthers moving up to #14 this week while the Bruins retreat one spot to #10,
Junior Tyler Molder of Reno, Nev., has been named MCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this year. Molder earned the victory in York's 2-1 win over Bellevue by allowing just one earned run over 9.0 innings of work to go along with seven strikeouts. He also pitched 2.2 scoreless innings earlier in the week in a 2-1 win over Briar Cliff University. Molder leads the team with a 1.50 ERA and has a 5-1 record.
Senior Brett Wise of Paso Robles, Calif., has been named MCAC Baseball Player of the Week. Wise hit .526 last week (10-for-19) in leading the Panthers to a 5-2 record. For the week, he had six runs scored, a triple, a home run, two stolen bases and seven RBI.
The #14 Panthers are now 30-9 on the season, 12-2 in conference play. They will be on the road this weekend to take on Oklahoma Wesleyan in a key four-game series as the Eagles currently sit at #3 in the MCAC. Games will be played April 12 and 13 in Bartlesville with Friday's first games set for 1 p.m. and Saturday's games starting at noon.
