York College held its annual All-College Banquet Tuesday night at the Stone Creek Event Center in McCool Junction. This end-of-year celebration is a chance for the student body to gather with faculty and staff for a night of recognition and fellowship. Several awards were presented, including Mr. and Ms. YC.
York natives and second-generation YC students Andrew Rush and Macy Mountjoy were named Mr. and Ms. YC for 2014. YC faculty and staff make the selection for this award from among graduating seniors, using leadership, involvement, academic performance and personality as the criteria.
Rush is a business communication major. His activities while at York include soccer, Sigma Tau social club, Songfest, campus ministries, Alpha Chi honor society, and a mission trip to Ukraine. Rush was recognized as Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference four times during his years at YC.
Mountjoy is a Bible major and is currently interning at East Hill Church of Christ working with the youth group. Her activities at York include soccer, Beta Beta Sigma social club, Songfest, campus ministries, Student Association, Alpha Chi honor society, and a summer internship in Ecuador.
Brent Magner was the 2014 recipient of the David and Nellie Reppart Award for Service. Magner has served as the vice president of advancement since 2007. He was recognized as one who works tirelessly for the good of York College and its students. His wife, Kay, accepted the award on his behalf, as Magner was out of town for work. The Reppart Award is selected by faculty and staff to honor a staff member or non-full time faculty member who routinely goes above and beyond in their service to the YC community.
Christi Lones and Susan VanDeusen were recognized by the students as the faculty member and staff member of the year (respectively). Lones is an assistant professor of history and VanDuesen is the residence hall manager for the women’s apartments. Both Lones and VanDeusen are favorites among the student body for the way they serve with love, building relationships and ministering to students of all kinds.
