The Lady Panthers completed the 4-game sweep Saturday of Hillsdale Baptist in a key conference series. With Tiffany Cole throwing a complete 9-0 game in the opener and Jessie Griffith going all seven innings to get the 8-6 win in the final game of the series, York improved their record to 22-17 on the season, 6-5 in the MCAC.
Jessica Kodesh, junior transfer from Red Rock, Okla., led all batters in the first game going 3-3 with 2 RBIs. Corrine Pearl, Ridgecrest, Calif., sophomore, hit a 2 run home run in the third inning, her second of the series.
Hillsdale fought back in the last game of the afternoon, scoring 3 runs in the fifth to tighten York’s lead at two. However, the defense rose to the occasion in the seventh inning turning a 6-4-3 double play and then secured the win with a final putout by Oklahoma City junior Arica Reeves.
York had 6 hits in the game with Pearl and Maicey Madden, Carmel, Calif., junior, both going 2 for 3 at the plate, including a two-bagger by Pearl. A key stat in the 8-6 win were the seven walks given up to York players as opposed to the two walks given in the game by Griffith.
