Affordability Guide

Attending college will have a considerable impact on you – emotionally, professionally, and financially. When you choose York College, you can rest assured that you have selected one of the finest values in Christian higher education.

At this stage of your college search process we urge you to consider the final cost of education after financial aid has been awarded. Here at York, 98% of our students receive some form of financial aid, which greatly reduces the overall cost. So there is a very good chance you’ll be eligible for some combination of financial assistance.

Making the decision to attend a private Christian college can be a major financial investment. We pride ourselves in looking at each student individually and providing the personal service necessary to finance your college education. Give us the opportunity to serve you and find out how welcoming a financial aid office can be.

You may be asking yourself, “Since York is a private Christian college, how can I possibly afford it?” The chart below reveals that nearly 63% of our incoming new students have a reported family income of less than $60,000.

Fall 2007 Freshman by Family Income
Up to $29,999
31%
$30,000 - $59,999
32%
$60,000 - $89,999
21%
$90,000 - and up
15%

Don’t let the “sticker price” fool you! What’s really important is the NET COST – the “out-of-pocket” costs to cover your annual tuition, room and meals after the money provided by your financial aid package. Again, as you can see by the following chart, the York Experience is very affordable.

Reported Family Income
Average Out-of-Pocket Cost (after grants, scholarships, & loans)
Up to $29,999
$2,893
$30,000 - $59,999
$3,899
$60,000 - $89,999
$8,189
$90,000 and above
$9,894

Families generally cover the “out-of-pocket” costs through savings, the interest free payment plan and/or parent loans.

Typical costs for 2008-2009 are:
Tuition (12-16 hours)
$12,500
Room
$ 1,900

Fees*
$ 1,500
Total estimated budget
$18,500

*There are additional resources associated with your individual cost of attendance such as books, supplies, and transportation. Estimations can be given through consultation with your Admissions Counselor or the Financial Aid Office.
