YC senior Zeboriah Carter is the recipient of this yearís Nebraska Choral Directors Association (NCDA) undergraduate scholarship. This award of $1,000 goes to one junior or senior undergraduate music major each year. This is the first time a YC student has won this award.
ďIt really affirms the music departmentís reputation around the state,Ē said Dr. Clark Roush, chair of the Division of Fine and Performing Arts at YC. Carter was in competition for this award with students from all the other four-year colleges in the state, including the large state universities.
Carter is a senior Music Education major from St. John, KS. This is his final semester at YC before he does his student teaching in the spring. This semester, Carter is the assistant director for the YC Celebration Singers vocal jazz ensemble, as well as the student conductor of the Concert Choir. This past summer Carter was the musical director of the show G.I. Jukebox at the Yorkshire Playhouse. He is also active in theatre and several clubs at YC.
Carterís future plans include teaching junior high or high school music for 3-5 years before heading to graduate school to get a Masterís degree in Choral Conducting or Music Education. Carter will perform his senior voice recital on December 4th in the Prayer Chapel at 7:00 p.m. This performance is free admission and open to the public.
