NORFOLK
-- Nebraska Life magazine has selected York College senior Hazley Hamm for
inclusion in its annual "Guide to Nebraska Colleges & Universities." The
guide appears in the January/February 2006 issue. Hamm is one of 11 Nebraska
collegians to be featured with a short biography and photo.
Hamm, of Imperial, NE, is an education major who wants to be a special
needs teacher in a small Nebraska community.
Hamm has been president of her social club, active in campus ministries
and residence hall staff, and has participated in yearly spring break
mission trips. Last summer, she spent six weeks in Japan doing mission work.
She has been on the golf team for four years and also enjoys hunting.
"The
purpose of the College Guide is to encourage students to stay in Nebraska
for higher education," said Managing Editor David Bristow. "Telling stories
about Nebraska and Nebraskans is what we do as a magazine. So for us, the
best way to talk about colleges was to tell the stories of some of our
outstanding students."
Colleges and universities across the state nominated students for
inclusion. The Nebraska Life editorial board selected those students whose
stories best represented the state.
"Each of these students has gone beyond the usual books-and-classroom
definition of a student," Bristow said. "These are young people who are
helping others and getting involved in creative and entrepreneurial
activities. They're not waiting to become leaders of the future -- they're
becoming leaders now."
The issue is now on sale on news stands across the state and is available
directly from Nebraska Life Magazine by calling 1-800-777-6159. |
