Spiritual Emphasis Week Held
By Chrystal Houston
The spring Spiritual Emphasis Week, hosted by the YC Bible Department, was a family affair as Gary Lambrecht and sons Joshua and Zac visited campus to encourage students—and to look at the wrestling program. Gary and Zac were the featured speakers for the bi-annual week of spiritual focus, while Joshua was here to apply for the position of head wrestling coach.
Zac, a youth minister and graduate student at Harding University, spoke four times (twice in chapel and at two evening devos), touching students with his messages about faith and community. His dynamic presenting style and obvious passion for his message made him a great speaker for the students who assembled to hear him.
His father, Gary, a minister from Tampa Bay Area, Fla. presented more for the Bible majors and ministers, speaking twice in the Prayer Chapel for that group and once in daily chapel. His topic, “Why Will Anyone Listen to Me?” focused on ministering to people and how to share the Good News. Sharing personal stories and examples from his own life in ministry, Gary encouraged the group of ministers and students.
Spiritual Emphasis Week is a twice yearly event, that “grew out of the old lectureship format,” said Bible Professor, Dr. Michael Case. Now, instead of lectureships, there are two Spiritual Emphasis Weeks for students, and multiple ministry workshops for Bible majors and area ministers. “We’ve tried to pin point their needs and schedules. We try to have a speaker just for [the students], on topics just for them,” said Case.
