2008 Challenge Met

     Year two of a 4-year challenge has been successfully completed. An anonymous donor challenged YC alumni and friends to give $500,000 during 2008 and by the time the books closed, the college received $632,398.61 toward the goal. Several late-year gifts pushed the total far beyond the original target. 

     The anonymous donor had agreed to match every “new” gift to the college up to $500,000 during 2008, and did so with a check in late December. 

     Incoming president, Steve Eckman said, “The response from our alumni and friends is overwhelming and should be a matter of pride for everyone who participated. Most important is the result for students: better financial aid packages, the addition of the social work and criminal justice programs, the reintroduction of women’s volleyball, and several other campus projects. This all translates into benefits for our students. In light of some tough economic conditions, the timing of the challenge could not be better.” 

• An anonymous donor will match every new gift, dollar for dollar, up to $500,000!
• If you did not give in 2008, the entire amount of your gift or gifts throughout 2009 will be matched.
• If you gave in 2008, the amount of increase in your gift or gifts will be matched. For example: if you gave $100 in 2008 and give $500 in 2009, the anonymous donor will give $400, matching the increase.
• If you or your spouse works for a matching gift company, the matching gift may also count toward the challenge.

     This four-year challenge began in 2007 and will conclude in 2010. The total challenge for all four years is $1.5 million. So far, the college has qualified for and received $750,000 from the anonymous challenge donor.  Thank you to everyone who participated in securing these dollars for the sake of YC and the students we serve.
