2008 Challenge MetYC wraps up year two of an anonymous challenge – launches year number three
Year two of a 4-year challenge has been successfully completed. An anonymous donor challenged YC alumni and friends to give $500,000 during 2008 and by the time the books closed, the college received $632,398.61 toward the goal. Several late-year gifts pushed the total far beyond the original target. The anonymous donor had agreed to match every “new” gift to the college up to $500,000 during 2008, and did so with a check in late December. Incoming president, Steve Eckman said, “The response from our alumni and friends is overwhelming and should be a matter of pride for everyone who participated. Most important is the result for students: better financial aid packages, the addition of the social work and criminal justice programs, the reintroduction of women’s volleyball, and several other campus projects. This all translates into benefits for our students. In light of some tough economic conditions, the timing of the challenge could not be better.” Year number three of the 4-year challenge began on January 1 and will conclude December 31, 2009. All “new” gifts received will be matched up to $500,000. How does the 2009 Challenge work?
