Cocoa and Carols
Celebrations Singers perform a Holiday to Remember
by Sue Roush
One of the most anticipated community events of the holiday season was performed the week before finals on the York College campus – Cocoa and Carols. Directed by Dr. Clark Roush, this year’s show delivered on its promise to be one of the best ever.
In an interview prior to the show, Dr. Roush stated how pleased he was with the work the singers had put into their preparations. “The production team has done a great job, and I believe it will be a wonderful evening of entertainment to help ring in the holiday season.”
Audiences heard some of their favorites including, White Christmas, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, Do You Hear What I Hear, among others. Cocoa and cookies were made available by the York Chapter of Helping Hands. Cornerstone Bank once again graciously sponsored the production.
As a bonus to each performance, parents with small children were encouraged to attend and stay after for a special picture with Santa and his elf. Also making an appearance this year was Frosty the Snowman.
Assisting Dr. Roush for this production was senior music education major from Lincoln, Nebraska, David Young, “Cocoa and Carols is one of my favorite programs that we do at York College," stated Young. "Being the assistant director has given me a new perspective on the group and how it operates which will help me in my future career in music.”
Other members of the production team were Kaylee Danielson from Delta, Colorado, choreographer, Jamie Mix from West Jordan, Utah, set design, Bethany Saylor from Lawrence, Kansas, and Landon Roseberry from Rockwall, Texas, costumes. The rest of the cast include: Bridgett Ketchum, Martha Kinyon, Amasa Maine, Maegan Simpson, Kathey Stewart, Renee Willard, Brad Brunson, Jason Hernandez, Brian Keller, Erich Loper and Matt Ward.
