Opening Days at YC
Celebrating our 119th Year
New students arrived on campus Wednesday morning, bringing with them their hopes and dreams for the future, as well as parents' cars piled high with clothes, computers, and other dorm-life necessities.
Several athletic teams that had arrived a week early for practice were ready to help freshmen unload vehicles and set up their rooms. A picnic meal on the campus courtyard officially welcomed the students and their families to campus. Before the day's end, everyone had the opportunity to worship in a devotional setting as a YC family.
Freshmen and transfer students had a busy orientation schedule Thursday and Friday that included academic advising, campus tours, photo scavenger hunts, iPod touch demonstrations, and get-to-know-you sessions with Student Association, club reps, and YC Campus Ministires. A cookout at President Eckman's home and an evening at the York community center were good ways to end Thursday's activities; Friday will feature a visit to the aquatic center and YC's Night at the Movies. A morning service project will get the day started on Saturday with a tailgate party that evening before the Blue-White soccer scrimmage.
Opening Convocation ceremony will be held on Monday at chapel. Flags representing the home states and countries of all the student body will be carried in by various groups and put on display. President Steve Eckman is scheduled to speak and will pronounce the 119th academic year at York College officially open.
On Tuesday night, the community will give their welcome to town with a Community Fair, including free prizes and a picnic dinner on the Court House lawn. Students will be able to meet business people and see what services and products are available to them in town.pics
