RoundUp 2009

Seniors travel to YC for annual retreat

The interesting classes, the devotionals, and the fellowship with friends were the main draws for the 80 plus participants of RoundUp, the annual senior citizens' retreat on the York College campus, held May 17-23.

Participants came from seven states to get a taste of the real York College experience. They slept in the residence halls, ate in the cafeteria, and even attended classes taught by YC professors.

The theme for the week was On the Oregon Trail with YC professor of history Tim McNeese leading the studies. A prolific author, McNeese riveted the audience with daily classes on the topic, weaving the massive amount of information into a fascinating narrative. Of particular interest were the exploits of the Donner Party and the tragedy that could have been avoided.

Dr. Clark Roush, chair of the department of fine and performing arts, led a study of Hymns from the Trail and conducted the RoundUp participants in many of the songs that would have been sung during the westward expansion . In his RoundUp debut, York College president Steve Eckman provided wonderful morning talks on discipleship and the challenges faced by followers of Christ.

RoundUp 2009

It was a full week of activities as the RoundUppers enjoyed daily exercise classes, evening devotionals in the prayer chapel, an Oregon Trail theme dinner, Wessels Farm field trip, talent show, and plenty of time for fellowship and games in the evenings.

Dates for next year's RoundUp are May 23-28, 2010. For more information, contact Gayle Good in the Advancement Office, at or (402) 363-5664.
