Panthers Sweep Central

YC Softball heading to conference tournament

by Jared Stark, athletic director

The York College softball team under first-year head coach Tori Means picked up two key wins on the road against conference foe Central Christian Friday night.  The Panthers were hot offensively the entire day winning the first game 8-1 and the second of the double header 4-1.

Leading the charge was Lexi Paspalof who hit a home run on the first pitch of the day and doubled later in the game.  During Game 2 the Panthers got a pair of home runs, one each from senior catcher Brenda Perry and another from freshman short stop Angel Gray who went 3 for 4 in the game.  As always the Panthers were anchored by pitcher Devyn Pearl who threw two complete games in a row only allowing three hits in the first game and scattering five hits in the second game to secure the sweep of Central Christian.

The Panthers qualify for the MCAC Conference Tournament with these key wins. They are scheduled to play their first game on Thursday, May 6 against the #1 seed Bellevue University. Opening pitch is tentatively set for noon. The Panthers go into the double-elimination tournament as the overall #4 seed. If they win the first game against Bellevue they will play their next game the following day (Friday). A loss in the first round game will likely lead to the Panthers playing their second game later that same day.
