Opening Days at YC

Celebrating our 120th Year

New students arrived on campus Wednesday morning, bringing with them their hopes and dreams for the future, as well as parents' cars piled high with clothes, computers, and other dorm-life necessities.

Several athletic teams that had arrived a week early for practice were ready to help freshmen and transfer students unload vehicles and set up their rooms. An evening picnic meal at the Larsen Commons will officially welcome the students and their families to campus. Before the day's end, everyone will have the opportunity to worship in a devotional setting as a YC family.

It will be a busy orientation schedule Thursday and Friday that will include academic advising, campus tours, photo scavenger hunts, iPod touch demonstrations, and get-to-know-you sessions with Student Association, club reps, and YC Campus Ministries. A cookout at President Steve Eckman's home and an evening activity will be good ways to end Thursday's activities; Friday will feature eating in faculty members' homes and a trip to Sun Theatre for YC Night at the Movies. A morning service project will get the day started on Saturday with a tailgate party that evening before the Blue-White soccer scrimmage.

Opening Chapel will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday. Dr. Eckman is scheduled to speak and will pronounce the 120th academic year at York College officially open.

On Tuesday night, the community will give their welcome with a Community Fair, including free prizes and a picnic dinner on the Court House lawn. Students will be able to meet business people and see what services and products are available to them in town.
