YC Student to Tour Germany

Leonard Epps selected for News Release Basketball

by Paula Clendaniel

Leonard EppsThe experiences we face in college challenge us to find out who we are as individuals and make us work to be the best we can. For Leonard Epps, York College did just that. Having come from a troubled past, Leonard was able to turn his life around and now plans to join a tour called “News Release Basketball.”

The tour takes a selected group of men overseas to direct youth basketball camps, teach the bible to campers, and ultimately participate in a showcase auditioning for professional teams. The group will travel to Germany and visit several cities for one month.

“I have seen Leonard Epps grow tremendously. The person he is now is not who first set foot on our campus,” says athletic director Jared Stark.

Leonard, who became a Christian last year, says one of his goals through all of this is to grow as an individual. “I hope to develop a stronger bond and relationship with God and to bring kids that don’t know as much about the Lord closer to Him as well,” says Leonard.

Leonard says his experience at York College helped him really open up to people. “It has allowed me to take advantage of opportunities that I would have otherwise passed up.” No matter the outcome of the tour and the showcase, Leonard is confident in his future. “The next step for me is unknown, but with prayer and following God’s word, I know everything is going to end up like it’s supposed to.”
