YC Cross Country Team are Strong Heading into Conference Meet
York College’s Cross Country team isn’t slowing down for the MCAC (Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference) meet coming up, November 5, in Lawrence, Kan.
“The women’s team is going to be a tough team to beat this year,” states Coach Justin Carver. The Lady Panthers are unofficially first place in conference as of now. The team’s overall average is 18 seconds faster than that of last year’s winning team.
“I think that we will definitely be prepared for the conference meet when the time comes,” says teammate Kameryn Brewster, a junior from Casper, Wyo. “We’ll just keep giving our all at every practice, and I think we’ll see great results at conference.”
Warren Lannon, a freshman out of North Platte, Neb., made the MCAC Conference Runner of the Week for the men’s team on October 10th. “He is a great addition on and off the track,” says Carver.
The men’s team may not be leading the field in scores, but Lannon says that there isn’t another team on the field that is as close-knit as his team. This support is a definite advantage.
Brewster adds, “The team overall is awesome. Both guys’ and girls’ teams are full of strong, talented and hardworking individuals and I think that we have a great team dynamic this year. It’s just a great group of people to be a part of.”
Oklahoma Wesleyan University will be the biggest competition York will see at their MCAC meet. The first place winner will have an automatic seed in Nationals. Carver says he has no doubt that York is fully ready. “All year the team has been pushing one another to the max. We are not only physically strong, but mentally strong.”
