Groundbreaking to be held for new activity center
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on May 4 at 10 a.m. for the Colis and Dolores Campbell Activity Center on the York College campus. The ceremony will be held in the parking lot adjacent to the building site on 10th Street and Mayhew Avenue.
All are invited to attend this event. A reception will follow in the Miller Room of the Mackey Center.
“We are pleased to be able to honor the Campbells with this facility and with this event,” says York College President Steve Eckman. “The Campbells mean so much to this campus. This new activity center will continue their legacy of impacting students. We are grateful for the gift that makes this all possible.”
The funds for the activity center are provided by an anonymous donor.
Construction will begin on the new facility later this year with project completion targeted for 2013.
Located near the northeast corner of campus, the Campbell Activity Center will provide space for intramurals and student activities. It will also temporarily house daily chapel.
Additionally, a 3,000 square foot lobby area will be available for student activities and special events.
The multipurpose facility will include an athletic court which can be used for banquets and other large gatherings, seating for assemblies, and a large foyer. There will be seating for approximately 500.
On the day of the groundbreaking event, traffic will be blocked off on Mayhew Avenue. Attendees are asked to park in the Mackey Center and Prayer Chapel parking lots on Delaware Avenue and 8th Street.
