Songfest 2012

York College's 35th annual Songfest production was celebrated over the High School Days weekend with its closing finale Saturday night. During the final weeks before opening night, students rehearsed late into the evenings learning the music and perfecting their production team's assigned choreography. Those practices paid big dividends as each night's show entertained audiences from across the country.

The success of this year's show is attributed in large part to the talented voices of the six hosts and hostesses: Patrick Clark, Maegan Detlefs, Angelene Gray, Cameron Holmes, Bethany Saylor, and Caleb Smith. Under the direction of Amy Fraser, they have been steadily at work on their performance since the campus-wide auditions in December.

At the completion of the show Saturday night, clubs anxiously awaited with the audience to hear the judges' tally of their three-night production. Would Delta Chi Alpha and Kyodai surge ahead in the professional world with Taking Care of Business or would Beta Beta Sigma and Alpha Chi Epsilon's zombified Nightmare repeat as champions? Could the judges be swayed by all the movie tunes with Omega Phi and Kingsmen's Cinemania or would Theta Psi and Sigma Tau put together the best portfolio with Paparazzi?

Best Music and Best Choreography went to Sig Tau and Theta Psi, while AXE and Beta claimed the Best Costume award. These two shows split the award for Best Theme, making this year's production another very tight race. The President's Award for the best club show overall went to Sigma Tau and Theta Psi.

About one fourth of the York College student body participated in this year's Songfest production. Congratulations to everyone who had a part in Songfest 2012!
