Accounting Prof. Thompson Hired
York College announced today the hire of Steven W. Thompson, CPA, who will join the faculty this fall as an associate professor.
Thompson will teach accounting as well as other business courses.
Thompson attended York College in 1976 and '77. He then continued his education at the University of Iowa, where he earned a bachelor’s in accounting. He also holds a master’s degree in accounting and taxation from the University of Hartford, in West Hartford, Conn.
He has experience in academia as well as the corporate world. For the past seven years, he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at the University of Hartford, Barney School of Business.
Previously, he held positions with a variety of companies, including Arthur Young & Co., Price Waterhouse, United Technologies Corporation, and Charles Schwab. He has expertise in investment, management, shareholder relations, and financial reporting.
He has a number of international professional experiences as well, and will bring a valuable global perspective to his courses.
“We expect Steve‘s addition to our business department team will position York College to have one of the strongest business and accounting programs in the region for a private, four-year college," says Tracey Wyatt, vice president for academic affairs at YC.
"We are excited for Steve to be returning to York College," adds Mark Moore, associate professor of business and chair of the department. "He can help with expanding our accounting program with his wide experience in accounting and finance. He has some great ideas for immediate changes we can make to help our students be career-ready when they leave us."
