York College announced last week that Catherine Seufferlein has been promoted to the role of dean of students. She has served as the assistant dean of students since 2011. “I am humbled and honored to serve in this position,” says Seufferlein.
This promotion comes on the heels of former dean of students Dr. Shane Mountjoy’s appointment to the newly created position of provost. Mountjoy will retain the title of vice president for student development. In his new role as provost, he will oversee student development as well as academics.
Mountjoy stated in an announcement to the campus that he was very pleased with Seufferlein’s promotion. “Catherine has done an outstanding job within student development, where she has led the department in student discipline—arguably the most difficult job on campus—and has done so with integrity and consistency while displaying the heart and spirit of Jesus and taking necessary steps to protect our unique identity. She believes in and actively lives out our institutional mission in her work with our students.”
Seufferlein graduated York College in 1985 and completed her bachelor’s degree in 1988 at Abilene Christian University. Prior to her experience in student development, she taught middle and high school grades family and consumer sciences and health classes.
Her husband, Dr. Terry Seufferlein, is a member of the faculty in the Bible Department and her son, Grant, is a freshman at York College.
