Dr. Cheryl Couch believes that one of the greatest mission fields in America is to
train and equip children to become leaders of tomorrow in today's classroom. She has
a great passion for assisting educators to become the best they can be for our children.
As the Director of the Masters of Education (MAE) program at York University, she oversees this fully online program. The MAE currently includes
concentrations in Educational Leadership, Principal Endorsement, Curriculum and Instruction,
Social-Emotional Learning, and Sports Administration. As the eLearning Specialist,
she also guides and trains all professors in the online environment as well as provide
professional development.
Couch's specialty is to help teachers soar so that their students will have the best
learning experience they could enjoy during their education. She enjoys taking students
where they are and assisting them in extending their learning beyond what they thought
possible. She is passionate about establishing the resources necessary for all students
to be successful in the way that their brain learns the best.
She has presented at state and regional conferences at York University on Social Emotional
Learning in children. She has also assisted in developing a new concentration and
courses in SEL for York University's master's degree program. Other research interests
include how to increase theory to practice of learning in elementary methods courses
which was a foundation of her dissertation. She has developed and established a new
theory for implementing a gradual release of responsibility in methods courses that
prepares professors for teaching methods courses in elementary education.
Since she was twelve years old, she has enjoyed sharing the scriptures with children
in Bible classes. She currently teaches in the children's ministry program at East
Hill church of Christ in York, NE. She also enjoys quilting and cooking with her eleven
grandblessings as often as possible.
Dr. Couch’s favorite scripture has always been Jeremiah 29: 11. However, as God has shared His grand plans for her life, her newest favorite as
she has developed her identity in Christ has become Isaiah 41: 9-10. Her hope and prayer is to guide students and faculty in finding and developing their
identity in Christ as they refine their vision and mission for His service.
