Erin Baker, accounting instructor, has been named the faculty advisor for the YU Collegiate Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter for the 2024-2025 academic year.
It will be Baker’s first year at YU. The resident of Silver Creek, Neb. was previously at Grand Island High School. During her decade of teaching, she has experience teaching accounting, engineering, aviation and computer science, along with teaching special needs students.
Baker’s goal for the YU Collegiate FBLA Chapter is to provide valuable opportunities for YU students to develop essential skills, explore their interests and cultivate a mindset of innovation and leadership. YU students interested in business career opportunities, entrepreneurship and personal growth will be attracted to participate.
“Whether it’s working for a company or a church, our FBLA members will learn the basics, including logistics, protocols and basic business management,” Baker said. “We’ll have fun with opportunities to network, grow, and learn from the experiences of industry professionals from diverse sectors. Our chapter will be all about personal growth and new experiences.”
Baker said career preparation will be part of FBLA Chapter activities.
“Our students’ experiences will include resume writing, cover letters, interviewing skills and negotiation techniques,” she said. “Students will learn about different career paths and gain a deeper understanding of different career paths. After all, building a strong network can significantly enhance your career prospects after graduation.”
