The York University Theatre Department will present its mystery comedy production House on the Cliff this weekend.
The play will be staged at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, 21, and 22, with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on Feb. 23. Make reservations at york.edu/boxoffice. General admission tickets are $10, and senior and student tickets are $7.
The House on the Cliff is rumored to be the last stop of the Civil War Underground Railroad and overlooks one of the Great Lakes. Years ago, an excursion boat sank in a storm and it's said the lake is haunted. The house's occupants include a young, lovely heiress, Ellen Clayton (Sidney Richie), currently confined to a wheelchair; her coolly beautiful stepmother (Eliza Rohda); and an austere housekeeper (Kaylee Collins). Then Nurse Pepper (Brinna Finch) arrives, a cheerful, curious person desirous of putting things in order.
The cast includes CJ Arnold, Kaylee Collins, Terry Dillard, Brinna Finch, Sidney Richie and Eliza Rohda.
“I really enjoy all the character development that happens,” said Eliza Rohda, a junior from Waverly, Neb. “There’s a lot of conflict and lore between different characters that gets slowly revealed.”
Director John Baker is in his 28th year at York University. House on the Cliff is his 82nd show directed on the YU stage. Jude Gray is the assistant director.
The show will be held at the Bartholomew Performing Arts Center located at 1098 E 10th St. on the York University campus.
