York University students brought their energy to the stage once again in the 49th annual Songfest performance. Directed by Professor Lester Miller III, this year’s performance was titled “Night at the Movies.”
The Celebration Singers hosted the evening’s festivities, entertaining the crowd with renditions of classic movie hits. Performing a mix of solos and group numbers, Celebration Singers Sammi Burch, Nash Crane, Madi Fields, Adeline Fornander, Addison Harrold, Penelope Heaton, Shelby Hicks, Lennon Kimball, Malachi Meador, Jayden Miles, Madi Miller, Jackson Norton, Jenna Smith, Simeon Tremaine and Fischer Wood wowed the crowds with their talents.
The night featured performances from YU’s social clubs, with club members dancing and acting out their original choreography while singing medleys from movie soundtracks. Delta Chi Alpha took the audience to the world of the Despicable Me movies, while Theta Psi and Sigma Tau brought the Inside Out characters to YU. Beta Beta Sigma and A.X.E. sang and danced their way through the Teen Beach Movie soundtrack before the members of Celebration Singers and all the clubs crowded the stage to perform the closing number, “Try Everything” from Zootopia.
After three nights of shows where audience members voted for their favorite club performance, the results were tallied and Beta Beta Sigma and A.X.E. won the People’s Choice Award for the second year in a row.
