York University is excited to announce a major revitalization of its premier academic scholarship, the Distinguished Faith and Learning Scholarship—a program long known for celebrating students who pursue excellence both academically and spiritually.

This redesigned scholarship preserves that legacy while expanding opportunities for high-achieving students to contribute meaningfully to campus life and grow in purpose.

A Renewed Structure Beginning Fall 2026

Beginning with the Fall 2026 incoming class, the Distinguished Faith and Learning Scholarship will transition into a two-tiered structure featuring the Presidential Award and the Dean’s Award. This enhanced format strengthens York University’s commitment to attracting exceptional students who desire to grow intellectually, deepen their faith, and serve with intention.

“By expanding the Distinguished Faith and Learning Scholarship into the new Presidential and Dean’s Awards, we are deepening our commitment to students who seek not only to learn, but to lead lives of purpose, service, and faith. We believe this enhanced structure will empower exceptional scholars," shared Dr. Shannon Leinen, provost.

A Scholarship That Shapes Campus Culture

The decision to restructure this scholarship reflects York University’s vision for students who not only perform well academically but also elevate the campus environment. Distinguished Faith & Learning Scholars will be intentionally connected with faculty, staff, and campus leaders, allowing them to make an immediate and lasting impact.

Scholars will be invited into opportunities for:

  • Leadership development grounded in Christian values
  • Academic enrichment and faculty mentorship
  • Service and ministry engagement
  • Community-building initiatives across campus

This program is designed not simply to reward academic success, but to nurture students who desire to integrate faith and learning in ways that shape character, influence others, and strengthen community.

“York University has a long history of graduating Christian professionals who are well-equipped for the workforce after college,” stated President Westbrook. “This new initiative recognizes the high value we place on having students at YU with strong ambition for both academic and professional success.”

Award Tiers

  • Presidential Award: Full-tuition scholarship awarded to up to four students per year
  • Dean’s Award: $15,500 scholarship awarded to up to four students per year

A Vision for the Future

The revitalized Distinguished Faith and Learning Scholarship is more than a financial award—it is an invitation to join a campus community where students are challenged, supported, and inspired. Recipients will serve as campus ambassadors for York University’s mission, demonstrating excellence, integrity, and spiritual maturity.

These scholars will contribute meaningfully to academic and community life while partnering with faculty and staff in purposeful engagement. Through their leadership and service, they will help shape the future of York University and strengthen its commitment to academic rigor, spiritual formation, and Christ-centered education. Scholarship applications for the Fall 2026 incoming class are due February 1, 2026.
